And again I say, places to get information would be considered an early birthday present! If my friend here and I can't have a conversation that gets into detail on the Bush administration and what exactly has transpired and our opinions on it, I'm still wanting to have the conversation.
Stef, I respect your "I don't talk politics" rule - I'm sure it's saved you a lot of stress and quite a few friendships. ;) What do you read, then, when it comes to politics? I mean, the left has its Americablog et al, what blogs & news sources do you read that are more right oriented?

I read "Informed Comment" at www.juancole.com for one. He's generally reviled by the right, but he's also an Arabic speaker with contacts in that part of the world and academic credentials to be talking about the history of the region. Again, I find little accepted common ground as far as information goes between left and right. Most things that I find to be fairly objective have been completely written off by all of the right leaning people I talk to as "biased."

I don't single out the left or right side of anything. I grew up with the my mom saying that "every story has 3 sides to it. your side, my side and the truth."
Just because I may support the government and troops in this war doesn't mean that I am conservative or that I agree with nearly everything that has transpired. I am a registered republican because I don't agree with the socialistic undertones that runs rampant with Democrats, pure and simple.
i get updates on the war from friends that are out there, plus I had adopted 2 soldiers that I am penpals with, so that's how I get news from that front. As far as blogs and online news, I have a slew of links I go down every morning.

Want to know my public governmental ideals? Basically their show is where I stand. Basically. There are some things I disagree with, but for the most part, i'd say 93%, that's where I stand.
Just like the abortion issue, I have my personal political beliefs and what I feel is best for the country. Yes, I think abortions should stay legal but I don't want one. Yes, I support Gay Rights but I didn't see Brokeback Mountain. [I don't like love story movies.] Yes, I agree with the death penalty because of deeply personal reasons but I see how the limit of science and proof causes innocents to die and it has never reached its goal of being a deterrant of crime. Yes, I think we did and are trying to do a great thing for the Iraquis, but that doesn't mean I agree with all of the steps, mis-steps and foibles. I will not, however, choose to spit on the way our country is run because when it's "your turn" to have your guy at bat, I respect that he was the national choice.
I don't like discussing politics because rationality leaves the coversation. It becomes heated, charged and people don't listen. They just type or shout faster and faster until I want to slap someone. I also am well versed with the sarcasm response as a knee jerk to anything that someone doesn't understand or want to admit.
Please, Ceara, don't coerce me into a conversation about politics. Neither of us will like where it will end.

I've seen a couple episodes of Bullshit - they were AWESOME. I particularly loved the recycling one. And the Mother Theresa episode! There are few reasons I miss having television in the house, but that's one of them.

It's interesting; those of us who have libertarian leanings have a foot in both right and left camps, but there are so many nutjobs in the libertarian party I refrain from joining them either. ;)
To play devil's advocate somewhat tho, a person having not talked to you would say you were right-slanted just based on the blogs you read. You're right - people are quick to label, which honestly does nobody any good. (Don't get me started on how tired I am of both parties and how I wish we could either get rid of both or get a few more in there...)

Something that I try very hard not to do is hold "a republican" responsible for what "republicans" have done (and same with democrats) - sometimes I catch myself doing it anyway, when my brain goes "well, this person VOTED for those people, so on some level they're responsible..." Argh! Bad brain! Bad!
But you know the people that bug me the most? The ones that will blindly support A or B and refuse to admit mistakes on their party's part. The sun didn't shine out of Clinton's ass any more than it does out of Bush's, you know? ;)
I've been more involved with politics recently, actually.
I moved to the beach a few months ago and it seems like just about everyone I meet is either a socialist or a "real" republican. It gets draining when I go to the city meetings about stopping Wal-mart, which I want to do, but there are bleeders and fighters and nothing in between. Politics, the general subject surrounding the entire mass, is just exhausting for me lately. That's all.

The only truly "right" political idea I have is that I support the war - and I find W kinda loveable. If you people would stop hating him for a few seconds, you'd see an "i just wants a big hug" face.
